Main impacts for Central Georgia, windy conditions Thursday and Friday, rain possible east Friday.
As of 5 a.m. Thursday, Ian weakened to tropical storm status as it moves closer to the coast and reemerges over the Atlantic.
The eastward shift in the storm's trajectory should send it toward the the South Carolina coast as it picks up some intensity, winds up to 70 mph.
Tropical Storm Warnings have now spread inland to counties just outside of Central Georgia and along the South Carolina coast. A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for the Midlands of South Carolina and the Central Savannah River Valley.
The forecast cone from the National Hurricane Center continues to pull Ian's center east. Ian is predicted to ride the Atlantic coast for more than a day before it tracks close to Charleston Friday evening.
With this cone, this would keep Central Georgia on the better side of the storm, with breezy conditions and rain possible, mainly in our eastern counties.
Wind ahead of the storm will begin as early as mid-morning Thursday with gusts up to 30-35 mph possible through the day on Thursday. Then on Friday, gusts could go a bit higher, potentially up to 40-45 mph, with locally higher gusts.
