2023 WMAZ UPDATE

In May 2023, we debuted new weather banners at 13WMAZ to improve readability and add utility to the overall design. The goal was to create a cohesive look across individual graphics while providing the opportunity for a creative flare where appropriate. In the old package, different elements were in different locations on individual graphics. This redesign puts individual elements in the same place across the package.

Building off the T18 New Roads look from TEGNA's Design Tank, the new banners follow the daypart colors and incorporate shapes used in other parts of the graphics package. There are some instances where the daypart colors are "overridden" by shades of red to indicate severe or tropical weather, or by custom holiday banners (Christmas, Fourth of July, Halloween, etc).

I've also taken the initiative at WMAZ to be our in-house graphic designer for different elements using the TEGNA Brand Kit in Adobe After Effects. Most notably, I've updated our news opens to the new kit provided by TEGNA, with our own local flair. The station's sports look was also updated to create more brand consistency across the station.

SPORTS GRAPHICS

While working on the weekends, our sports anchor and I worked on producing creative breakouts and visuals using our weather graphics software, MAX, and Adobe After Effects.

We tackled two Atlanta Braves Postseasons, two Georgia Bulldog football titles, high school football, SEC football, and more in ways that The Weather Company says they haven't seen their product used before.
